Russia delivered humanitarian aid to Laos
On August 25, 2018 a plane of the Emergencies Ministry of the Russian Federation delivered about 35 tons of humanitarian aid to Laos, which suffered from the flooding in the southeast part of the country. The humanitarian supplies include basic commodities such as mobile power plants, food products, tents, blankets, boats and tableware. Total cost of the emergency operation exceeded $500,000.
The ceremony of transfer of humanitarian cargo to Lao authorities was held at Vientiane airport and was attended by Mr Mikhail BARANOV, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Lao PDR, Mr Khamkeo SANBOUNKHOUNXAY, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of the Lao PDR and representatives of the Laos Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Russian Federation is one of the countries that have provided significant humanitarian assistance to the Government of the Lao PDR in overcoming consequences of the devastating flooding in Attapeu province caused by the collapse of the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric dam. According to official information, 13 villages were affected, five of which were severely damaged, more than 6,000 people were displaced.
